Social Networks

I am just beginning to realize the value of social networks.

Currently I use Facebook to stay in touch with friends and LinkedIn as a professional network.

I have used other web 2.0 tools such as wikis to work with campus groups and our department on specific projects in the past. I have created forums within wikis for team correspondence.

Now I can see now that there is much more value in creating more specific networks to reach out to a larger pool of folks with similar interests. A group of innovators who experiment with educational technology could share details about success with certain applications.

  1. I agree, networking tools do allow us to reach out and touch more people. I'm curious, though - How do did these tools make your professional life easier? More difficult?

  2. The tools help us to gather our thoughts and share experiences with specific types of technology. When we are stumped we can reach out to a large group and either get a discussion going or gather some clues from others experiences that may lead to a faster solution.

The tools can also slow us down or make the process more difficult if we follow the wrong lead to far.
